About project
The project was made in the Department of Visual Communication A under the supervision of Dr. Barbara Widłak and Ms. Agnieszka Juchy-Kasperczyk.The project of a series of Polish banknotes with illustrations of dinosaurs aimed at redesigning the currency. I decided to take an unconventional direction in depicting what could be featured on the currency of a given country. Revisiting childhood memories and a great interest in prehistoric creatures, I sought out books and toys to have references for creating illustrations. I started by selecting species, opting to showcase the most recognizable ones from different environments: aquatic, terrestrial, and aerial. Subsequently, I assigned specific species to denominations and chose a color scheme.
Illustrations
When I was preparing the illustrations, I started by creating references for drawing dinosaur images that were intended for placement on banknotes. The initial illustrations were done in both pencil and fineliner to determine which style would be more suitable for the project. After selecting the fineliner-drawn sketches, I realized that they lacked a noble character, so I decided to intensify the lines in the drawings.
Some illustrations turned out to be too wide, so after overlaying them all to check the free space that would be left for the remaining elements, I decided to choose different references to create new illustrations.
Security features of banknotes under UV light
The security features are utilized in the printing of valuable papers, often revealing details to our eyes when viewed under such light that were previously unknown, or the banknote takes on an entirely different character
Mockups
I made couple mockups in style of photos taken somewhere in jurassic desert/forest with dinosaur bones. Mockups were generated in Midjourney. After many generations some of the best were photoshoped.
